PUPUKEA (HawaiiNewsNow) – A male motorcyclist is dead following a crash on Oahu’s North Shore Thursday evening.
It happened around 4:45 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway near Ke Nui Road in Pupukea, near Rockpiles surf spot.
According to HPD, the 26-year-old motorcyclist was trying to pass the driver in front of him on Kamehameha Highway.
As the driver — a 27-year-old woman — attempted to make a left turn onto Ke Nui Road when she was broadsided by the motorcyclist.
They were both taken to the hospital, where the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries.
Officials said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The woman sustained minor injuries and is expected to be OK.
HPD said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.
This is the 39th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 47 at the same time in 2023.
An investigation is ongoing.
Authorities initially shut down Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa-bound direction, then closed both directions shortly before 8 p.m.
The highway was reopened by 9 p.m.
